The exhibit

Opening reception of the Midwest Collage Society's exhibit, "Reclamation".

The Peabody Estate, built in 1921 as the retirement home for Francis Stuyvesant Peabody, is a beautiful place and it's exciting to be in an exhibit there.

Reclamation:  the process of getting something useful from waste, or getting something back that was previously thought of as waste.  A reclaiming or being reclaimed.

Julie, looking at my piece.

"The Return".  It looks small hanging on the wall, but it's 18"x24".  I had thought that was a good size.

Fun, seeing friends that I haven't seen in a while.

Barb did a beautiful job with the refreshment table.  Pretty!

Raining when we left, but I had to take a few pictures of the beautiful flowers...

and buildings.

Will go back...
The exhibit runs through September 10th.

Our friends, Jan and Linda, were with us, so we went on to dinner at "Antico Posto" in Oak Brook.  First time there and it's a busy and delicious place!

Wonderful crusty bread and olive antipasto.

Brick Oven Roman Style Pizza.  Mushroom Bianca: ricotta, portobellos, porcini pesto, baby arugula, truffle oil.

Shrimp Risotto

Black Pepper Tagliatelle with Sausage, fennel, toasted breadcrumbs.

Yummy!

Exhibit!

Tonight is the opening reception for the Midwest Collage Society's "Reclamation" exhibit.  It's from 5:30 - 7:30 at the Peabody Estate at Mayslake in Oak Brook.  Should be an exciting exhibit and will run from July 31st until September 10th.  Come on out!

Oh Baby...

Looking like he is going to conquer the world, Baby Robin is getting ready to take-off.  It won't take him long to grow into those feet!  (Click on the picture to make it bigger.)

Well...maybe.

On the other hand, "I think it's pretty comfy and safe right here" he says.

"Maybe I'll just wait for my mother."

The next time I looked, he was gone.  And there were two babies; this one was the one hiding in the nest and needed another day to get stronger.  Mother Robin had been so busy digging and bringing worms.  Good job, Mama!

Sunday's outing

Yesterday, we went to see "Boeing Boeing" at Drury Lane.  It's a very very funny play about a swinging bachelor in the 60s, who has a flat in Paris and three gorgeous stewardesses all engaged to him without knowing about each other.  Very funny what happens when an old school chum comes to visit him.  Nora Dunn, who was a cast member from 1984-1991 on "Saturday Night Live" (and which I'm sorry, but I never watched) has a wonderful role in this play.

I don't think I ever saw the 1965 film with Tony Curtis, Jerry Lewis and Thelma Ritter.  Now it's a must!

Henri's Birthday

Today is Henri's 5th birthday.

Happy birthday, handsome!  He has his Mommy's beautiful long legs.

Here he is the first time we saw him at the breeder's.

This is his handsome Daddy, "Shaws Jake Junior"...

and his beautiful Mommy, "Hcks Missouri River".

The day we brought him home, and Julie had brought his first toy to the bouncing baby boy.

Babies!

I have been hearing babies squacking, for several days now, when I go out with Henri on the deck.  I have not been able to figure out where it was coming from, but I knew it was close.  This morning I saw fluttering going on by my purple plum bush right at the side of the deck; peeked in and there it was!

In my purple plum bush!  It's not huge but it's full, so I guess Mommy thought it was a good place.

I can only see one baby, but oh my...there's a lot of squacking going on when the food arrives!

Thursday's summer art

This week's session was held at Marge's house.  A beautiful day...

and beautiful flowers in her garden...

I love those cone flowers...

and we had a sweet little symphony going on from a sweet little tiny bird...

a wren.

He kept us amused with his big voice that came out of that tiny body.

Danielle joined us this week and she was happy to be near the wren and a pretty birdhouse.

Sandy had several paintings going on...and I always love the colors of the artist's palette.

Soon it was time for lunch and the critique...

Mary's beautiful painting included doing a beautiful job on the fence.

And Luce's wonderful floral watercolors.

Danielle's pretty little colored pencil drawing.

MaryAnn's lovely pencil drawing.

Sandy's luscious watercolor of the lilies.

Oops...sideways (can't get it to turn) but two really nice pencil drawing of these things in Marge's garden.

Marge's beautiful garden drawing.

Ann's very sweet flower drawing with colored pencils.

Lois C's very nice pencil drawing.

Tish's beautiful colorful watercolor.

And here is Joan's garden watercolor and just look at this...

wonderful rabbit!  He is a garden statue with lots of patina!

And, of course, Lois H's great drawing of the back of Marge's house.

A good day!
