Summer Art at Lake Point Towers

Our drawing/painting class had it's first outing of the summer today. Every year, our good friend Sally, invites us to her place in Lake Point Towers. One of her windows overlooks Navy Pier.

The view is breathtaking. Quieter now in the morning, but as the day wore on, activity was bustling down there.

Chicago is so beautiful!

It seems, most years we go a little later in the summer and choose to draw outside on the "Garden Floor", but it was quite windy and chilly yesterday so most stayed in and set our sights on something from the 20th floor.

This was a lovely little view with lots of activity. Below is my start on a little watercolor. Ilove this little watercolor pad. It's almost 8x8 and a perfect little size for toting around on these excursions.

Oh no!

It happened! The hook gave and down the hanging basket went, right into the big basket beneath! A little crooked, but a direct hit. Mommy flew up in alarm and fluttered right back down to check on her babies.

Daddy came to the rescue! "Are you all okay?"

"Yes dear, I think we are fine."

I watched and watched and finally I saw the two little heads surface. Hungry!

Oh-oh!

I see the two little heads, all alone, looking and looking...

Mommy was out getting lunch!

Yum!

Okay...nap time.

Dove update

Here is one of the two little ones peeking out.

They are growing and I am worried about the planter getting too heavy and falling, so I piled things up underneath so, in case of emergency, they will have a soft landing.

Peonies, Peonies, Peonies

Why do peonies all have to come at once and on a week that rains? Their blooms are so heavy that their poor stems can not hold them up. I have read there are new hybrids that have sturdier stems. But I love this bush! I will have to look into the cage or stake solution for next year.

Anyway, brought dozens of peonies inside yesterday. I didn't want to just leave them lying on the ground. They are so beautiful. And now, this morning, I am sneezing and sneezing and sneezing! And "Henri" is alarmed by sneezing. Each time, he has to jump up and put his arms around my neck and hug me! Will I survive this peony explosion?

Tin Lizzies...I mean Ladies!

Arriving at The Center, it was a beautiful day yesterday.

The woods were lush green with wildflowers scattered throughout. What an inspirational backdrop!

The workshop. A day to make "tin ladies". Mary's idea and here are some of her samples.

After giving us some helpful instructions, we're on our way.

The beginning of mine. I love to save "clothing tags" and so thought they would serve as a good and decorative body part.

Here is Mary, busy with her giant pile of supplies.

She has three ladies here on the assembly line, waiting to be finished.

Nancy, deep in thought.

And here is her beautiful little Miss.

And Marge, deciding on just the right touch.

Love those legs!

MaryAnn and Joyce enjoying the process.

And here are MaryAnn's, ready for the fashion show.

And Joyce's, joining the parade. So prim and pretty!

Sandy and Harriet busy with their tools.

And here they are! Sandy's wonderful little assembleges.

And Harriet's very fancy lady!
