managing mandalas and...

On Wednesday, I dog-sat.  "Wrigley" came to visit for the day.  I love Wrigley!  He and "Timber" are pals.  The problem was that we had new sod put in Henri's part of the yard where he plays ball, so they couldn't go in that part and so I just managed to let them in and out separately.  Here's Wrigley looking in at Henri...

Sitting quietly, so that they would, I decided to work on the mandalas that we had begun in pen & ink class last week.  After I had drawn this design, I told Lois that the outer border looked just like the little hats that she crochets for children!  hmmmm...

so I decided to make them the little children.  Thought the balls under the faces looked like snowballs and so I left them white, and the middle maybe a big snowflake.  Thinking winter with all those little warm hats.  Oh, and striped scarves and white earmuffs.

Well, then made one in pink for the girls.

Now, I am thinking witches with their crystal balls for Halloween!

the weekend

Brought my nasturtium in from outdoors.  One of my favorite flowering plants, it had struggled to bloom all summer and now, inside, it is blooming like crazy.  I don't know if you can keep it alive indoors or not.  Will have to google that question.

After church yesterday, the kids came over for lunch.  We got yummy sandwiches from Italia Imports and then even had dessert.  Banana Creme Pie that Angel made; a belated birthday "cake" for hubby.  His birthday during the summer, but we never got to celebrate.  This, his favorite pie!  Was worth the wait!

Then on to the tasks of the day.  Added some weedy transfers to my collage that I hope to finish today.  Last night, I dreamed of more flying leaves around the edges.  When i go to bed thinking of something like that, the answer comes in the morning.

And only 72 more squares to go to finish this tablecloth for my Thanksgiving table with all the leafs?/leaves? in.  Apparently a lot of people are confused about that spelling.  Googled it and the plural is leaves. (just in case you needed to know)  It really started out as a small Halloween tablecloth or runner, but I got hooked on doing this "strip" quilting and so it grew!

So, on with our "works in progress".  I didn't get pictures of everyone's, I see, but next week they will all be finished and I will catch everyone then.

I'm so excited!  I think they're all beautiful!

The homework that I gave last week was to create a collage using only black and white.  Again, didn't get pictures of everyone's.  I'll do better next time.

Library Exhibit

My collage class from The Center is having an exhibit at the Palos Park Library for the month of October.  It's a lovely display and I hope you all get to go over and see it.

Busy Monday

Henri is very tired after his beauty shoppe appointment today.  He has a pretty Halloween scarf on too.

Hello handsome!

While he was getting his haircut, I went to see Lois' new studio.  Very very nice!

Joan and I had some drawing fun while we were there.  A nice morning...
and then I went on to the library to put up my class's collage exhibit...

a bridal shower

One of friend's son is getting married and yesterday was the bridal shower.  A family member is the baker and look at the wonderful cake that she created!  The groom is a policeman and the bride is a physician's assistant.  Don't you just love those little people!  And I love the fall colors.

Beautiful cupcakes and some were hazelnut!  yum!  I was lucky enough to sit next to the "baker" and I am sending her my mom's delicious chocolate cupcake recipe. "Grandma Gert's Chocolate Cupcakes"!  Maybe someday they'll be famous!

The tables were so pretty!  Our friend, the mother of the groom, did the lovely centerpieces and...I had the lucky ticket at our table that won one to take home!  The bride and groom to-be have been sweethearts since high school and I know it's going to be a beautiful wedding!
