Have more things to post, but today saw this wonderful moth on the big sign at The Center, as you enter the log cabins for the arts.
At first, I thought it was a sphinx moth or hummingbird moth, but when I looked it up in my book it may be a Cecropia Moth.
I have to look further...
it just rested there for hours.
closed it's wings...
and rested in this safe place.

I did a little research on "your" moth. It's not a sphinx moth and also not a cecropia, which is what I had thought it was when I saw it. I now believe it's a polyphemus moth. Follow this link for photos...and you'll discover the one you saw was a male, does not eat, and only lives one week! Love, Lois

I'm looking them up, Laura. and yes, a true treasure to come across, Gloria. And thanks so much for investigating, Lois. I'm so interested in the folklore and meaning to this moth who showed itself to me. The next day, I learned that one of my best friends died that night.
