Brrr. 32 degrees this morning. No ice on the deck today though. Yesterday morning, the dogs and I skated out to the stairway.
Then, late afternoon, good family time when we celebrated Danielle's 5th birthday and headed out to "White Fence Farm" in Romeoville. Brent came home from college for the weekend, along with his roommate, Chris, and we all went out for supper. We sure enjoyed the chicken and corn fritters! Then there were llama and sheep and chickens and goats to see, and a lot of giggling at those funny "Riverview-type" mirrors in their museum! I guess I never really read the history of White Fence Farm, so here goes...
"The popular White Fence Farm Restaurant is truly a fascinating and lively place. In the early 1920's, Stuyvesant Peabody, multimillionaire coal executive and one of Chicago's foremost citizens had a theory that people would enjoy a simple menu of superior food when served in an attractive atmosphere on a good-looking farm. He erected the present building using twelve acres of a four hundred fifty acre farm. The original rooms are those with the handhewn hardwood beams. The Currier and Ives collection displayed are of Mr. Peabody's private collection. Robert and Doris Hastert, purchased the farm in 1954. After extensive remodeling, the restaurant was reopened." http://www.whitefencefarm.com/
...and then it was back to "Daddy's" for cake and singing and presents!
