The Green Corn Moon

Yesterday was this month's full moon.  On my calendar, it's called the Green Corn Moon.  This is the month before harvest begins in many areas.  It's also called the Full Sturgeon Moon.  The fishing tribes are given credit for this name.  The sturgeon, a large fish of the Great Lakes, were most readily caught during this month.  Another name that some tribes called it is the Full Red Moon because as the sun rises, it appears reddish through any sultry haze.  This is how it looked outside my front window yesterday morning.

Another interesting thing on my calendar for this month (my favorite Susan Branch wall calendar):

"The game was to just find something about everything to be glad about no matter what 'twas...you see, when you're hunting for the glad things you sort of forget the other kind."                                    Eleanor Porter, Pollyanna
