Flanking the entrance to the Art Institute of Chicago, Edward Kemey's bronze lions are among the city's most beloved and recognizable sculptures.
Guardians of the building.
The south lion "stands in an attitude of defiance", "attracted by something in the distance which he is closely watching", and the north lion is "on the prowl", "ready for a roar and a spring".

In the central plaza of the South Garden is the Fountain of the Great Lakes by Lorado Taft.
The trees create a canopy over the entire plaza.

Oh I love the Art Institute!! It's a perfect place to go on a hot Chicago day--Where else can you have lunch with Monet,Renoir, Cézanne, and so many others and then spend time in such a beautiful garden!! :-)
