A stop at the Palmer House for a look at it's beautiful lobby. Reading about this hotel, there have been three; the first one was built as a wedding present from Potter Palmer to his bride, Bertha Honore' in 1871. It burned down thirteen days later in the Great Chicago Fire.

And on to Millennium Park and a peek at "The Bean" through the trees. Looks like the landscape that should be there, doesn't it?
"Cloud Gate" is a sculpture by British artist, Anish Kapoor. It is nicknamed "The Bean" because of its bean-like shape. Made up of 168 stainless steel plates welded together, its highly polished exterior has no visible seams. It is 33 by 66 by 42 feet and weighs 110 short tons.
Said to have been inspired by liquid mercury, the sculpture's surface reflects and distorts the city's skyline.

On the underside is the "omphalos" (Greek for navel), a concave chamber that warps and multiplies reflections.
